Morning Routine Ideas
1. Make your bed
I’ve always been that girl who religiously makes my bed in the mornings.
In college, I had a super tiny bed and I loved keeping it neat, although I would jump right back in after showering.
I never thought that making my bed would be my favorite morning ritual but over the years I found that it wakes my mind up and gave me a sense of pride.
So if you’re thinking “Oh I don’t have time”, or “No one is going to see it anyway” start doing it for you.
Making your bed can seem like such a small task but I promise you it will not only make your room look less cluttered but it’ll also help you to be disciplined by sticking to a routine.

2. Rise early every morning.
I used to be a late riser until I started some micro habits that would completely change my life.
This habit has been worthwhile for me and it can be for you.
As a late riser I found myself scrambling to catch up on my to-do list and of course, skipping important things that I don’t have the time to do.
Now, I find time to journal, meditate, read, and make a nutritious breakfast that nourishes my body.
I’m so in love with my new habit of being a morning person.
If you too want to have a better morning routine, rising early is the way to go. You will realize that your brain is fresh and alert to start your day on a positive note.
And of course, with more time in the morning, you can start cultivating healthy habits which promote a positive mindset.

3. Practice gratitude everyday
I love the quote “Gratitude is the key to happiness in life“
This is such a simple yet profound quote.
Contrary to popular belief happiness is not something you find but something you create.
How?
By practicing gratitude every day.
Yes; it’s that simple.
I know because I make it a habit to write down three things I’m grateful for before I even start my morning routine.
This micro habit has taught me to appreciate the things I have cherish my loved ones and live in the present.
When you’re grateful you naturally appreciate the good in your life that brings you happiness.

4. Have a get-ready routine in the morning
As we’ve previously gone over, rising early gives us more time to focus on our day ahead of us which means more time for a morning routine.
A get-ready morning routine is your ultimate time for some self-care.
Go ahead and do a quick five-minute skincare routine.
3-minute morning skincare routine
Start with a gentle cleanser to wash off all the products you put on the night before. Apply a toner with gentle exfoliating agents that remove bacteria from the skin. Apply your moisturizer to help bring moisture into your skin (use gel-based for oily skin or cream-based for dry skin) and last but not least apply a lightweight sunscreen to protect your skin from UV damage. Don’t forget your neck and ears!
This routine will not only give you clear skin but boost your confidence influencing the way you feel, think, and interact with others.
I enjoy this routine so much.

5. Move your body every morning
Honestly, I used to exercise in the afternoons but it left my body weak and burned out.
After several months I realized that my body was under total stress due to the intense agony I put it through.
Of course, I’m not saying that this will be your experience because our bodies are all made up differently.
After understanding my body and the kind of exercise that suits me best I started doing Pilates after my morning routine.
I learned that Pilates is a low-impact exercise that focuses on movement which was a dream for me.
Now I’m not saying you should start doing Pilates but I’m saying you should first understand your body and the movement that suits you best.
Start moving your body with simpler exercises like a 10-minute walk in the mornings, getting up from your desk for five minutes every day, or even just taking the stairs or walking around your house.
This will get you moving every day without having to do intense exercise.

6. Stay hydrated by drinking more water
I grew up hearing people say that “water is life”
I’m sure you’ve heard a similar notion.
Drinking enough water every day will not only help you to stay hydrated but help your body more energized.
This might come as a shock to you but drinking water should be in everyone’s daily routine.
If you find that you have a low mood most days and you can’t remember where you put the pen though you had it in your hand a moment ago you sure are suffering from memory loss due to dehydration.
To ensure your body performs at its best you need to be drinking at least eight glasses of water every day.
Tip: To add this to your routine purchase a timestamp water bottle to help you stay motivated.

7. Nourish with intention.
Practice mindful eating with foods that nourish the body from within.
Eat a healthy breakfast filled with healthy nutrients to help you set the tone for the rest of your day.
Avoid foods that make you feel sluggish and choose foods that fuel your body throughout the day.
Try avoiding matcha and coffee in the mornings and nourish with intention with a protein smoothie, oatmeal, eggs, greek yogurt, and whole grains which are high in protein.

8. Change your mindset from “I have to” to “ I get to”.
What is the quickest way to motivate yourself and reduce stress before starting your day, you ask?
It’s changing your mindset from “I have to” to “I get to”.
When you take the time out of your mornings to think of your tasks as choices and not burdens, not only are you more at ease but you look forward to a productive and joyful day ahead.
So when you wake up in the mornings instead of saying “I have to go to work” replace it with “I get to go to work”, or “I have to work out today” say “ I get to work out today”.

9. Listen to a mindful podcast every day
I try to do this as often as possible.
Listening to a podcast is like talking to someone who shares the same experiences as you. I was recommended the “On Purpose” podcast by Jay Shetty by a friend and it’s amazing how my mood shifts once I turn on an episode.
I truly feel more understood by the guests who share their stories of healing anxiety, releasing self-doubt, and overthinking.
If you’re struggling with these limiting beliefs I wholeheartedly recommend you start listening to mindful podcasts.
The best thing is you can do this with another task. You can listen to podcasts while you’re tidying up, doing the dishes or cooking, or even on your way to work.

10. Create a to-do list
Having a clear plan for your day is how you’re going to ensure your 24 hours are spent on tasks that truly matter.
Changing your life starts with good habits like planning your day, and crafting a well-organized to-do list will be your roadmap for tracking your daily tasks and helping you set goals that you can follow through with.
To ensure a productive and peacefully organized day add these five things to your to-do lists:
- Top three tasks for the day
- One hour of downtime to relax
- Three mindful activities like journaling, meditation, and reading
- 20 minutes for a creative activity that brings you joy
- 5 minutes to connect with a loved one via phone or text

11. Do a quick clean up
A messy space can make it harder for you to relax and focus on what needs to be done.
This is why cleaning and organizing your space is the best way to free you from distractions.
This does not mean you have to go on a cleaning spree and get everything done around the house all at once but will encourage a “fresh start” to your day by boosting your mood.
Without overwhelming yourself try these quick clean tasks in the morning:
- Fold and put away any clothes lying around
- Wipe your desk and organize your supplies
- Do a quick trash sweep
- Put all out-of-place things in your room away
- Dust the furniture in your room
- Organize your bookshelf
These mini-decluttering tasks will not only make you more relaxed and productive but also reduce the number of tasks for your monthly cleaning.

12. Check in with yourself -Smile at yourself
This morning habit is the corniest on the list but I just had to add it.
Not only do I do this every morning but it’s my favorite morning habit to give myself a little self-motivation.
While life can get chaotic with work, school and other responsibilities checking in is a great micro habit to just pause and be present and show yourself some kindness.
Here are three easy ways you can practice checking in with yourself:
- Close your eyes for three minutes and take a few deep breaths. This will help you to relax and reflect and reduce tension in your body.
- Write a quick self-check prompt
- Acknowledge 5 things you see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, and 1 you can taste to reconnect to the present moment.
Three Questions To Ask Yourself for a Self-check-in:
- “How am I feeling today?”
- “What emotions do I feel right now?”
- “What can I do to nurture myself today?”

13. Meditate for 5 minutes
Meditation is a powerful morning habit to set the tone for your day. Not only does it help you to stay calm but it also clears your mind to start your day off right.
Set an alarm if needed and start with a daily meditation for five minutes.
This is one habit that has helped me to stay present, and mindful, and activate my feminine energy.
Final Thoughts
If you’re anything like me you desire to wake up early, be productive, and get a sense of control over your day. Starting your day with good morning habits can be life-changing when incorporated into your 5 am morning routine.
I truly hope that these morning habits can help you start your mornings feeling focused, and energized, and inspire you to start your day off right!
